Savvy Painter is where you will find your artist community, artist interviews and painting workshops
Insightful interviews that appeal to artists at any stage of their career
All of my friends are probably sick of hearing about Savvy Painter from me, but I can't stop recommending this show. Every episode is a goldmine, whether the interview is with another artist, a teacher, financial planner, blogger, collector, gallery owner...You name it and Antrese Wood has had a conversation with them. The show is informative AND entertaining. And she's not just rehashing what has already been covered in other interviews or writings. Antrese does her homework and doesn't let her interviewees off the hook and glib answers. The show makes me go back and re-listen to episodes (and take notes) to make sure I didn't miss anything. What a valuable resource!
Really enjoyable and informative
The podcast is a wonderful resource for artists (and wanna be artists) to learn more about other people's process, live and techniques. Antrese is an adapt, natural interviewer and the conversations she has with the guest artists are always insightful and informative. Thank you for this, a great idea you've wonderfully brought to life!
What a difference this has made in my life!
Antrese, if you read this, THANK YOU! You have helped me move mountains in regards to my own creative exploration. I started listening to this podcast my junior year of art school and have completely identified with so much of what your guests discuss. I am a huge supporter of and can't wait for the day I can thank you in person. I have approached my canvases and my own mentality towards my paintings in a new light because of this podcast. Much love!
Antrese does wonderful job bringing us great guests with fabulous insight
I'm not even an artist and I listen to this show. The folks Antrese has on are wise in business and life, which applies to artists and non-artists alike. I've heard things I've never heard on any go my business podcasts. Great stuff!
Great show in a Niche with a big need
The artist seems to be an area where it's often difficult to make a living. This podcast serves this community in a strongly meaningful way. The business of art is also a great example of making a living in the unique niche in a very self fulfilling and acceptable way.
Very helpful and engaging. Great resource!
What a treasure trove! I've been recommending this to all of my friends in the arts, especially those of us who paint. Not only do I love your name, "Antrese," I deeply respect your "back story" and vision. There is much to learn and like here, not the least of which is the importance of determination, perseverance, and courage. Congratulations!
More More More of THIS!!!
Just listened to Kathleen Dunphy interview and was absolutely riveted to every world. Just invaluable to me. I took away so many great tips on how to persevere, how to follow what you WANT. Antrese moves the conversation through in a natural way. You are sitting there feeling so lucky to be hearing all of this great advice. It's all the better knowing Antrese and respecting her work and journey...she can relate to the wonderful people she is interviewing and so that lends a lot to it. These are life and soul saving talks that are keeping me walking that line with my head high. I've listened to a lot of these kinds of things, but I'm a huge fab already...heard two and on to the rest and so happy to know there will be more!!!
LOVE your podcasts
Thank you thank you thank you! LOVE your podcasts.
Deeper than it looks!
It took me a while to check this podcast out, because of the title of the show I was expecting mostly marketing tips & that sort of thing. I was afraid it might be a bit glib & superficial...or worse, lessons in how to sell out. I was very happily surprised that Antrese's conversation with artists go far deeper, with discussions not only about business matters & technique, but artistic philosophies & intensely personal experiences relating to the making of art. I do appreciate the helpful marketing stuff (we all need, like it or not), but even more the insights into individual artists' varied approaches to their work & careers. I've also discovered artists here that I might never have encountered otherwise. Thank you, Antrese!
Top notch artist interviews
This is my favorite artist podcast! Antrese will introduce you to quality, committed artists and you'll get to live vicariously through her interviews. Her guests are people who I wish I could invite over for dinner or visit at their studios. I learn something new every time and it's always fun. Thank you Antrese for sharing yourself and your interviews with us.
Wide-ranging info about art world, and artists
I have listened to each podcast twice, I always loo forward to hearing artists talk about everything from their process, to their funding, to light, color, materials....everything.
I'm addicted !
Truly thoughtful questions and insightful discussions. I am so excited about this podcast. Antrese does such a phenomenal job interviewing and has the best guests! I only recently started painting and am learning so much! Cannot wait for more!
Love This Podcast
This is another podcast I love to listen to while driving or working in the studio. I'm not sure how many times I've listened to Hollis Dunlap and Mark Trujillo. At least five or six times each. Keep up the good work.
This podcast should be in every artist's library!
Thank you soo much for the heart and passion...
Thank you soo much for the heart and passion you have put into Savvy Painter! I am constantly inspired and challenged by you and your guest. Thank you for making this happen and for pulling our worlds together. I am a Senior CG artist at The Basement in Indianapolis with almost thirteen years in the field. My foundation and true love in fine art, Pen and Ink, and oil painting. My strength is drawing but my goal is impressionism oil painting.
Here are my top two struggles. With impressionism with oils...is "when to stop." I tend to push the painting past the moment when I should stop...losing the brush strokes, color, and original heart of the painting. My second struggle is finding time as s a husband, father of two, and full time employee. I can't put into words how blessed I am but I struggle while finding time to put paint to the canvas and learning more. Drawing is different...I draw all the time while working, while at lunch.
Thank you again for your heart and passion you put into Savvy Painter. Continue doing what you do and blessing others!

Great Show for the Art Industry
As a former Art student….I wish I had this show growing up to help inspire and teach me how to create a business in the Art Industry. Now so many artists will benefit from this show.

Calm and Valuable
Savvy Painter in an amazing concept, how to make a business out of your art. I'm wondering this myself so I will definitely be checking out more. The John Hull episode's pretty beautiful and heartfelt. Thanks Antrese, keep it up!
Enjoyable and informative!
I'm so glad I found your podcast. Although I don't know how you have managed to produce so many quality interviews. I'm glad there is a backlog I haven't heard yet so I don't have to wait. I'm sure I'll catch up soon thought, so keep on doing them! I like your style of interviewing, it's obvious you research your guests and I often find that you ask the very question that comes to my mind when I'm listening. Thank you for your hard work and for creating this valuable resource.
So thankful to have see artist Carol Marine mention this series in her blog, and I'm thrilled I took time to check it out. Topics and the interviewees are diverse but very relevant to working artists. Creating art can be a solitary discipline, and listening to the podcasts is a wonderful way to get out fo your little bubble and see how the real world works and how other artists think and create. The other thing I really like is that the podcasts are not too long 🙂 Antrese is great at asking the right questions and pulling out the most important information from her guests.
Useful and practical information for artists and business
I like it that Antrese gets right into the content with good clear sound. This is a podcast with useful and practical information for artists and business. And, it's entertaining. Antrese has a nice rapport with the guests and the laughter makes the podcast enjoyable to listen! Thanks! Keep 'em coming Antrese 🙂
Wide-ranging info about art world, and artists
I have listened to each podcast twice. I always look forward to hearing artists talk about everything from their process, to their funding, to light, color materials...everything.
The breadth of interviews is outstanding. I have learned so much from everyone, from the art aspect (like Camille’s) to the business aspect (such as Cory Huff’s). Thank you so much Antrese for spearheading this effort!
A really valuable podcast for anybody who wants to be a full-time artist.
I listened to the latest podcast with Sarah Intermann and LOVED it! I felt like I was totally eavesdropping on two artists having a real down to earth conversation. Her impulsive process and shifting mediums was a breath of fresh air. I have to shift things around almost everyday these days to keep myself present. I'm not sure who the artist was that you spoke to that had a separate room for each artistic expression? I'd love that. A reading room, a knitting room, a painting studio, a ceramic studio, a sewing room etc. etc...and of course my nice kitchen to bake in !!!!
My life is chaotic - surprise! And I always try to get to the podcasts and updated on all things 'Savvy'. You continue to be one of my polestars when I am adrift and even though I'm physically IN my studio, I'm just not quite able to 'GET to it' due to other life commitments (teenagers that are on the precipice of leaping) but need help...or maybe a shove !! ha ha :-). I send you peace and love and one day - I swear it - I'm going to write a check and send it your way. I'm just not quite there yet, but will make more of an effort to share your podcast link on a regular basis. Thank you for your thoroughness and follow through and for continuing to create stable, informative, fun, intelligent yet absorbable presentations and interviews. Thank you for staying with it even when you didn't have your computer!!! Wow!
