Savvy Painter is where you will find your artist community, artist interviews and painting workshops
I don't know how I managed before discovering this podcast. Listening to Antrese interview artists about philosophy, struggle, joy, technique, marketing, what have you, has been an absorbing and companionable joy as I paint alone in my studio. I'm pretty sure I've made some better paintings because of this podcast! Thank you Antrese.
Antrese helps with my windshield time fly by with inspirational guests. Finally an art podcast that isn't a lecture series. Keep up the good work!
Intelligent informative and fun
Listening to Antrese's podcast is a highlight of my day! It is like being in an intelligent, informative and fun conversation every day. I listen to the episodes over and over because as I progress in my art, I hear different things. A must have for artists of all kinds. Her website is full of fabulous information!
Easy Listening on a Complicated Subject
Just discovered this via an artist I follow on Instagram who was interviewed: William Wray. Have now listened to at least six or seven episodes and I love the consistently audio quality (a problem with other show on this topic) and the structure of the show which makes it very easy to listen to and the insightful questions that reveal each artist in unique ways.
Motivates me to keep pushing for better results
These artists are incredibly talented and insightful. On their recommendations, I have bought books, changed some supplies and tried all sorts of new things. They're making me think of my work in new ways. Antrese is excellent at pulling the good stuff out go these guys. Amazing job!
How to make art a business...so needed in the creative arts.
Reminding me to paint with my soul..
I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your interview on the Savvy Painter. Thank you for reminding me to paint with my soul and not be so wrapped up in technique. The paintings that I have enjoyed painting the most are the ones that I get lost in and they paint themselves without thinking about technique.
You gotta get paid!
This is an awesome podcast with great interviews! Thanks for sharing!
Just the inspiration I need when I am in the studio.
Great Podcast for Artists!!
I discovered this podcast maybe two weeks ago, and I've already binge-listened to every episode! Antrese is an excellent interviewer. She's very smart, insightful, kind and she's somehow able to relate on a meaningful level with every artist she interviews, and these are some drastically different personalities and points of view. I can't wait to find out who Antrese will interview next! She's gotten some amazing, impressive artists so far.
These are AMAZING!
I recently discovered this podcast...WOW, so inspiring and fun to listen to! I really appreciate the variety of topics discussed, and it's all done in and approachable, fun-spirited way. I'll definitely keep listening!! Thanks so much!
I stumbled on these...
I stumbled on these, not sure how, but I'm so glad I did! So much information and ideas. By listening to all these other artists I've found that the struggles I'm going through are just part of the process. What a huge help and relief. Techniques, marketing, finding your own voice, the list goes on, you won't be sorry!
I truly love all your interviews
Antrese Wood, I truly love all your interviews but I wanted to pay a special compliment on this one with Karen. Really connected with so many things she said - she is putting words around concepts that I've just recently begun to consider. Wonderful! I also love how you are able to 'go there' with everyone you interview and this podcast is another inspirational one! Thank you!
Awesome Artist Stimuli
I stumbled across this podcast and what a treasure it's been ! Several of the interviewed artists have been ones I admire (Kathleen Dunphy and Kevin MacPherson - Plein Air artists). The host asks great questions and usually gets great advice for those listening. Even though it is simply audio, a wide array of topics have been covered (drawing, painting, business). It's been fun to listen in on what has to be said about the artists origins, dreams, practices, color choices, and interests. As a young aspiring artist, this podcast is very encouraging and I look forward to sharing with my artist circle of friends. Keep up the great work and keep bringing on those Plein Air artists!!
I love this podcast. It's full of information and inspiring. I feel like I'm sitting around drinking coffee with friends while I learn about the art world. It's my favorite thing to listen to it in the studio.
No more roadblocks for Artists that long to have their work seen, except whatever is holding them back inside themselves. Antrese can help with that!
Great Podcast for All
Antrese’s passion shines through. Artists sharing their stories actually provide great principles for all entrepreneurs and business owners. Hear about marketing, promoting, email lists, and more talented and successful people.
Genuine...extraordinary person and an amazing interviewer
Antrese is an extraordinary person and an amazing interviewer. She is actually present throughout the entire interview, not just reading questions and waiting for an opening in the conversation so that she can say something. She is very engaged and engaging and her own paintings are beautiful. She asks the questions that I, as an artist would ask the interviewee myself but in a truly curious and very conversational way. She shares some of herself but not too much, it is like listening to a conversation between two extremely interesting and close friends. I recommend this podcast often to friends and fellow artists. Go Antrese!
Antrese does wonderful job bringing us great guests with fabulous insight
I'm not even an artist and I listen to this show. The folks Antrese has on are wise in business and life, which applies to artists and non-artists alike. I've heard things I've never heard on any go my business podcasts. Great stuff!
Not just for painters
I am a visual artist but not a painter. In fact, at first I hesitated to listen to it thinking it would be only about painting. What I found though is that title of the show is a bit of a misnomer because it's not really about painting at all. It is really about the reasons we make are and what it means to be a professional artist. I know that Antrese is a painter but I think that she could easily interview artists from other mediums and be completely at home because for the most part the goals and questions are the same regardless of what you make. This is totally worth a listen and a re-listen.
Thank you, Antrese!
Thanks Antrese Wood -- this is my favorite podcast so far.
Ebullient interviews that are entertaining and informative
Interviewing and making it interesting is difficult. And that to a visual topic on an audio only medium and it's at expert level. Host Antrese Wood handles this so deftly that you can't even see the brush strokes. Even when a guest misinterprets a question and answers in a fractal way, she encourages and nourishes this surprise branch and delves deeper. Her website has the gallery and bibliography for every episode (which is oh so helpful to not only see the art being discussed but to learn about any other artists being referenced). Put a red dot on this podcast, I'm sold.
What a wonderful interviewer you are. Your voice is so good and smooth. You have a presence that has a great magnetism. I like the uncut version. You are really good. I am planning on listening to more of your interviews.
I am not exaggerating, I've been listening to this podcast every spare minute since I found it. I wait impatiently for a new episode each week. Captivating, essential information for painters. Thank you Antrese Wood.
Best use of time
I feel like I am painting with friends when I paint with this podcast. Being an artist can be a lonely business. But, now that I have Antrese, she introduces me to a new person each week! Thanks Antrese!
Deep into the business of art
Antrese brings deep insights about art and the business of selling it from experience and translates that for the rest of us. Her ability to go beyond the obstacles and balance a plan with inspiration comes across. If you are an artist of any medium this is joy to listen to and learn from. - Wyatt, creativehabitspodcast.com
I listened to the latest podcast with Sarah Intermann and LOVED it! I felt like I was totally eavesdropping on two artists having a real down to earth conversation. Her impulsive process and shifting mediums was a breath of fresh air. I have to shift things around almost everyday these days to keep myself present. I'm not sure who the artist was that you spoke to that had a separate room for each artistic expression? I'd love that. A reading room, a knitting room, a painting studio, a ceramic studio, a sewing room etc. etc...and of course my nice kitchen to bake in !!!!
My life is chaotic - surprise! And I always try to get to the podcasts and updated on all things 'Savvy'. You continue to be one of my polestars when I am adrift and even though I'm physically IN my studio, I'm just not quite able to 'GET to it' due to other life commitments (teenagers that are on the precipice of leaping) but need help...or maybe a shove !! ha ha :-). I send you peace and love and one day - I swear it - I'm going to write a check and send it your way. I'm just not quite there yet, but will make more of an effort to share your podcast link on a regular basis. Thank you for your thoroughness and follow through and for continuing to create stable, informative, fun, intelligent yet absorbable presentations and interviews. Thank you for staying with it even when you didn't have your computer!!! Wow!
I'm addicted !
Truly thoughtful questions and insightful discussions. I am so excited about this podcast. Antrese does such a phenomenal job interviewing and has the best guests! I only recently started painting and am learning so much! Cannot wait for more!
Thank you Antrese for the bringing such a variety of artists' perspectives. Wonderful to listen to and helpful for creative blocks and staying loose in practicing making art. I look forward to hearing many more!
Insightful interviews that appeal to artists at any stage of their career
All of my friends are probably sick of hearing about Savvy Painter from me, but I can't stop recommending this show. Every episode is a goldmine, whether the interview is with another artist, a teacher, financial planner, blogger, collector, gallery owner...You name it and Antrese Wood has had a conversation with them. The show is informative AND entertaining. And she's not just rehashing what has already been covered in other interviews or writings. Antrese does her homework and doesn't let her interviewees off the hook and glib answers. The show makes me go back and re-listen to episodes (and take notes) to make sure I didn't miss anything. What a valuable resource!
